Read the FULL article on this Fender Signature series David Gilmour Strat Guitar, Demo by Jamie Humphries.

This Fender Custom shop David Gilmour Signature series Strat is review and demoed by Jmaie Humphries for iGuitar Mag. If all you got for your money was a beaten -up strat, it would be hard to justify what is, by any standards, a whopping asking price - but Fender's Custom Shop has crawled all over Gilmours orignal and the company says the result is an exact replica!

the toggle switch is used to activate the bridge pickup no matter what the pickup selector is on. so you can have the neck and bridge on  for a tele-type sound, or have all three on.

@Adam the pick ups are Custom series fat 50 in the neck, Cseries 69 in the middle and a Seymour Duncan SL55 in the bridge.

The mini toggle on the black strat is an on off switch for the neck pick up. When the switch is off everytthing is normal but when it is on and the sector is in the bridge it adds the neck so you can get the tele sound.

If this is made the same way I did on my strat- it's a fairly common mod- the switch connects the bridge and neck pickup together, and in both positions neck and bridge you get that sound. In position 2 and 4 all three pickups are engaged.

For those not in the know: the "block" below the bridge was cut out back in the late 80's to fit a floyd rose bridge! When he reverted back to the old faithfull 2-point standard bridge the hole was filled up with that wooden block. It's worthy of note that this particular "mod", which technically would affect sustain and therefore his overall tone, is apparently absent from the NOS replica!

the alteration around the bridge area he is talking about . is from a previously mounted kahler trem that dave mounted in the .. 80s i think and then filled and put in a vintage trem instead!

"this thing seems to be..." no, no no no Jamie you are an excellent guitar player, i got all your Gilmour videos, everyone can make a mistake.. = )

the correct answer :

That switch is set for activate 2 new pickup positions, one is bridge and neck pickups together, the other one for all three pickups at the same time,

= )

On his personal guitar he uses a Seymore Duncan SSL1C that's been custom wound for him in the bridge position, in the middle and neck position he has 2 standard strat pups from a 71/72 bullet strat. On this custom shop strat there's a seymore Duncan SSL5 in bridge, a Fender cutom 69 in middle and a fat 50's in the neck.

I'm sure someone has pointed it out already but no, you're totally wrong about the second toggle. It's to engage the neck pickup so you can select it with the bridge pickup or all three at once.

But that's what I said... The wooden block is absent from the NOS version, which means the guitar's body is intact. Only the relic version has the block inserted into the body to reflect the changes made to the guitar. We're agreeing on this! :P

@tichmen i think their 10s, thats what dave uses and he has his own line of sig strings for about£4

I cannot answer on this ax, but GHS Boomer 10s are what D G uses. Funny everyone told me for years Ernie Ball was the best the "Hybrids" When I built My "black strat" I used them Still using GHS BOOMER 9s on that. I have one strat that is mexi but the ONLY strat that has its oem tremelo yet ALWAYS returns to tune. I can do Dimebag Darrell dives w/ it. I use pencil lead and vaseline on all points of string contact too.

I stand corrected, It is w/ out question from a string Lock system very much like a F R. Maybe should have said it's from a FR "style" trem.... It was indeed a Khaler system, w/ the same principle. I guess to me when I say "crescent wrench" I mean "adjustable wrench", or "Skill saw" is another one. Or "Saws-all".. many companys make the same "tool". I use "Floyd Rose" as a GENERIC term. You are right. I am wrong. Gilmourish/com proved it. Still I call those string locking trems floyd rose trems.
