The MagSwitches are great. But here is a little general info about magnets that folks should be aware of. The specified strength of a magnet is based on two things:
1. The direction of pull – Magnets do not necessary have a lot of shear strength; they are stronger when pulled perpendicular to the surface.
2. The thickness of the mating surface – A magnet’s strength is related to how thick the object is they are attached to. A magnet is much stronger when stuck on a thick piece of steel than on thin sheet metal. They will have a much better grip on a thick table saw top than on the side of your car, for instance.

Manufacturers always put their best foot forward in the specifications. So when they calculate the magnetic strength of their product, they use those test parameters.
Anyway, I see a lot of bad reviews of various magnetic products by people who do not understand this.
