Biden says Nato 'will respond in kind' if Putin uses chemical weapons in Ukraine

US President Joe Biden has said Nato "would respond" if Russian President Vladimir Putin uses chemical weapons during its war against Ukraine.

At a press conference after the Brussels summit, Biden was asked if the alliance would take military action in that instance.

"It would trigger a response in kind", he said.

"You're asking whether NATO would cross… we'd make that decision at the time."

Speaking after meetings of NATO and the G7, he said: "The nature of the response will depend on the nature of the use."

I think some people need to look up what "in kind" means, "respond appropriately" or "a measured response" is what he should of said, "in kind" only serves to escalate matters more and create social fear and unrest on both sides.

It would be Illegal for NATO to use chemical weapons against Russia if Russia used them in Ukraine, even IF chemical weapons were legal, as Ukraine is not in NATO. The fact that Ukraine is not in NATO is the reason why NATO has not sent any NATO military to Ukraine, so why would NATO suddenly think it right to use chemical weapons against Russian forces in Ukraine?
