China ordered a lockdown of the city of Yuzhou in the central province of Henan on January 3, 2022, after the discovery of just three coronavirus cases on January 2-3. Yuzhou’s 1.1 million residents were ordered to remain indoors and public transport was suspended. As of January 4, over 950,000 people had been tested for Covid-19. Yuzhou’s lockdown followed a similar operation in Xian in northwestern Shaanxi province, where about 13 million people have been confined to their homes since December 23, 2021. China is holding on to its zero-Covid strategy ahead of the Lunar New Year starting February 1 and the Beijing Winter Olympics which open February 4.

You have 2 options:
1. Immediately impose a short term lockdown when there’s less cases. After the lockdown, enjoy your holidays and celebrate festivals.
2. Not imposing a short term lockdown immediately when there are less cases and then imposing a long term lockdown when there are too many cases. After that, you can’t enjoy your holidays or celebrate festivals.

You either have a 2 week complete lockdown where you actually eradicate the case count then you go on as normal afterwards or you have 2 month long semi lockdowns like you do in the west where it absolutely does nothing but cause a an inconvenience to everyone for an extended amount of time.

It's either this, or let the cases explode and allow the proliferation of many more new variants.

Yeah, remember when Canada last month said " let's just pretend COVID doesn't exist".

40, 000 cases a day later..

Small short-term inconvenience for some, huge long-term safety for all.

Small price to pay, but will hopefully allow them to enjoy a better lunar new year.

Forced? its just a preventive measure. They have too many people it can easily spread to the entire population. They dont wanna have 300, 000 cases a day like in the US

Short pain is better than long itch. Chinese people are well behaved. They trust n appreciate their government. Well done. China.

This happened in some states in Australia too and it worked. If everyone country did this in 2020, this pandemic would be over by now.

Wow…. I’m jealous. I wish the UK’s government cared about covid more. Even with 100K+ cases each day, boris hasn’t done anything

I look at this testing station where everyone is masked and ensuring social distancing is observed. I remember the lines here where you book a time, drive up - or walk depending on the testing station - fully masked and with social distancing strictly observed and enforced (they are run by the army). I then looked at one in New York - shown during a broadcast by their mayor on COVID and lockdowns (none) - and the testing station showed most wearing masks but no social distancing, they were all crowding together pushing to get into lines to further up the line. If you didn't have COVID when you arrived the odds on you having when you left are around 99%, meaning all those tests were useless anyway. Completely unbelievable the difference in care for the community. China and Ireland both observing social distancing, extreme care at the testing stations and so on. The US allowing all those who may, or may not, have COVID crowding in like sardines so if didn't have when tested the odds are you will in a couple of days time.

That's how you get stuff done. Here in Canada we are losing the battle because we are afraid if we lock everybody up for 2 weeks because all the government cares about is that it will be so horrific on our economy. But the hospital cost alone from not doing it will offset the costs and some completely.

The local government is also hand delivering free groceries and living necessities to the whole city for free, small price to pay for the prevention of the virus.

0 COVID policy. better to have few weeks of prison life than 2 year of no life.
