I use one of those 849 every day...here in Switzerland, with a black medium Golliath refill. 825 is a very popular pen because in 🇨🇭 school you get them for free...like plenty Caran d'Ache material.😁🤗

You may be able to tightly wrap some scotch tape around the base of the blue plastic piece. I did that with a wobbly metal pen. It worked like a charm.

Those throwaways, EVERY SINGLE TEACHER uses them to correct school work. You can buy them at every single supermarket i think in multi pack so yeah. They are popular. It’s the standard go to like a bic ballpoint i think is in the states.

Apropos school. All our art supply was from carandache as well. Pencils, guach, crayons. Everything. I was really surprised when I first heard that it’s seen as a high end brand outside of Switzerland.

I bought 4 of these - 2 red, 2 green. I had difficulty clicking them initially so the tip showed. No schoolchild is going to put up with that. I met schoolchildren on the Goernergratbahn outside Zermatt. They were chatting rather than doing homework, in a mixture of Swiss-German and italian, so i have no special pen insights from them. At 4:47 the author says that the Caran 849 uses a Parker G2 refill. This is not correct - Caran make their own refills for the 849 and they call them Goliath refills because they can write for 600 pages or 8000m.

The shape of the Goliath and the Parker G2 are similar and hence it is possible to fit a G2 in a 849, if you slice off about 3mm or 4mm of the plastic at the back of the standard G2 refills. Doing this hack saves a lot of money and also allows you to fit a much wider variety of refills inside the 849.

That's the refill that's used in the Caran d'Ache 888 Infinite ballpoint pen. Might as well buy that cheapo pen than buying the refill for 3x the cost separately.

Looks a bit like the refill of the Caran d'Ache Infinite - 888 model.
