Nikola Tesla's AC motor was a game-changer. But how does it work?

There is no "timing" grab on Tesla's AC motor. The center rotor is inductively dragged by the outer magnetic fields as individual coils alternatively phase in and out, creating a virtual rotating magnetic field.

This describes a synchronous ac motor, not tesla's ac induction motor.

Wow! Suddenly the AC motor looks like a sort of glowing induction heater. Or electric toaster. Probably not exactly what Mr Tesla had in mind! Do you have any designs for anti-gravity or perpetual energy machines? Nothing too scientific please. Just make it up as you go along. This is really disappointing content from PBS.
