Fly Fishing On A Budget: The Ultimate Guide

If you're on a budget and want to see what all the cool kids are doing but the barrier of entry was always too steep? Well rest assured, I got you! For $119.00CAD you can get into fly fishing. But Wait!! There's more! If you actually enjoyed fly fishing I have a plan that will get you going for a little while longer until you surrender your fishing budget to all the fly shops!

On a serious note. Fly fishing doesn't need to be expensive to get started. I have a pretty comprehensive breakdown of the pieces of kit you need to get out and enjoy it. The Maxcatch Extreme fits the bill all day long! I have used it for a two seasons and can say that I am impressed. I do not provide too much pricing info as it has fluctuated so much recently. I will say I have a three tiered approach that starts at $120 and then about $190 all the way up to $1000! But, you need not get carried away my friend. Slow and steady, fishing is the most important part.

Milan, i have #8 9ft and 1x #4 8'6 plus an old Daiwa beater #6 ive had for like 25 years.
Buy an extra ECO reel for like $25 each and load it up with a sink tip.
The lines provided are pretty good or as good as the bottom end Scientific Angler lines.
We tend to use longer leaders than 9' in NZ around 10 to 12'
All in all, they are great rods and you won't be crying when you trapped your rod in the tail gate. Maxcatch actuall do some nice higher end rods aroung the $300 mark, i dont own one but have good reports about them.

Honestly the only thing I’d upgrade is to some better fly line. That line will hold back the experience. I’d also keep an eye out for those Redington combos when they go in sale.. they usually come with some great rio line and leader. Great video !

This is great stuff! I'm living in Ontario myself and happy to support fellow Canadian :) Glad I found your channel. It's cool that you are covering things from ground up as I just decided to try out fly fishing this season as it's been on my "want to" list for a while. Looking forward for more stuff - from how you find spots, how long to fish a spot, all the good stuff, looking forward to it. Thank you for the videos. By the way, adding links to the gear you show would be great (when possible)

I've subscribed again, but the number just isn't going up!!

I've written a long diatribe about using my old gear, yet all the words except two disappeared. I won't try again, but I did want to say KEEP IT UP! You deserve more than 53 subscribers. Although I have only a couple for my stellar content...

New Sub from Sydney, Australia. Cool stuff, motivating me to get up into the mountains about 2 hours away where the trout are. I was really just daydreaming my way through some fly fishing vids thinking about trying some saltwater fly when I stumbled across your channel. Great advice. All the best with it!

I was on the road last spring and summer fly fishing in the western mountains (USA) and ordered 2 of these max catch set ups in a 1 wt. And 3 wt. ...rods reels line etc. for smaller fish And i caught so many fish on them ... 4" to 16" brownies, rainbows ....and even bass on the lower elevations ....rods held up great ! So yea your right for the money you cant go wrong or do any better ....i do own and use my higher more expensive rods as well these little combo set ups perform great !!
