With 32 years in the trade, Red Wing Irish Setters with a wedge sole are the one and only boot if you want to walk the iron period! JIW #25 Detroit.

I've always worn Thorogoods for walking the iron, they are soft on the feet and have very very little break in period and Super comfortable.
I Love the fact that they have No steel shank, makes it a lot easier to feel the edge of a beam or a bolt head, lots of times as iron workers we grab material and swing it into us for connecting and our lives depend on the feel of where our feet are placed.

The only problem I have Now that has Turned me away from Thorgoods is the fact that since they have been bought out from RedWing is that the original price has gone up almost 80% . I first got thorogoods for 69 bucks shipped to my door, Now the price is around the $ 300 and Up! These are First Grade American made Quality boots and if the original company was putting them out and making Money and had a Long line of a Fanbase, why the hell Be GREEDY and double or triple the price and lose FANS. This just doesn't make Marketing sense in my opinion.

What about JB Goodhue Iron Worker boots. Working in Canada I require safety boots that are CSA tested.

Ive had those timberland progrips for about 5-6months now and heres how it went for me as a scaffolder going through a shutdown at a refinery and doing confined spaces. first week boot felt amazing but after that the heel portion started to irritate my foot and then i developed massive blisters on my heel from the boots and it only stopped making blisters about a month ago (should i have returned them? yes but had no time to do so)
Also the leather right at the ankle where your foot bends on the backside was very uncomfortable, the leather was so tough it ended up cutting my ankles open a few times because of how stiff it was. Now i dont have those issues but the tread is next to gone, The heal portion of tread is completely gone along with most of the rest of the tread. The front of the soul under the front toe cap is starting to peal away and the sticthing is stretched out. Right where the laces and leather fold over the steel toe cap the stiching and leather is starting to peal away and break. Their ok for now but they took way to long to break in to. Now im just wearing em out so i can use it as an excuse to get different boots with the wife. Id never buy a progrip again just for the pain i had breaking them in over the months
