International Monetary Fund raises 2023 global growth outlook

The International Monetary Fund raised its 2023 global growth outlook on Tuesday (Jan 31) due to "surprisingly resilient" demand in the United States and Europe, an easing of energy costs, and the reopening of China's economy after Beijing abandoned its strict COVID-19 curbs. However, Singapore and other Southeast Asian economies are seeing downgrades to their growth outlooks, as slowing global growth is expected to outweigh the positive impact from China's reopening. The IMF's economic counsellor and head of its research department Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas shares more with CNA's Asia Now.

South Korea should insist the US deploy nukes back into South Korea as they have always been before the 1990s.

South Korea should also developed its own Nuclear weapons to have its own Nuclear deterrence option.

The only effective deterance against any potential aggressor.

Afterall, North Korea already has Nukes and Communist China is on the nuclear proliferation highway. Russia is very capable to strike South Korea with its enormous arsenal of Nuclear weapons and even Pakistan and India have nukes.

Japan should also seriously consider the Nuclear deterrence option seriously.

Dr Jamus Lim highlighted his party’s stance of opposing a GST hike as it believes that there are other ways for Singapore to tap on revenues in order to minimise economic hardship for the general public.
He also pointed out some of the suggestions made by WP for revenue generation in Parliament, which include increasing the Net Investment Returns Contributions (NIRC) from 50 per cent to 60 per cent, tapping on a portion of land sales, increasing duties on sales of high-end properties or introduce a modest wealth tax.
For those who say that these methods can use up the country’s reserves, Dr Lim explained that it does not.
