i've had my Inspiron 5570 with this CPU for just over 5 years now, has served me well and with an SSD installed it flies. I don't do any gaming on it, so planning to continue using this laptop for years to come. As long as you don't game, it's still good, it renders videos for me in a respectable amount of time too considering its age and power draw

Did this guy try to play Fallout 4 on Intel HD 620 and turn out disappointed ? 😂😂what a strange world we are living where people think integrated graphics should be on the level of a graphics card and it should allow you to play 5 year old AAA games.

I'd be interested to know what the ram configuration was.

I5 8400 was regarded as a beast in its day, holding distinct advantages over the competing ryzen 2600. We used them in systems setting up a big print shop running fairly demanding image manipulation software with a lot of background usage. They're still in service today.

Both my parents have thinkpads from around 2017/2018 that have either the 8250u or 8365u, I cant remember. Upgraded to windows 11 these days, seem to demolish anything they throw at it, which admittedly probably doesn't extend beyond basic usage very often.

its 2024, i has a old laptop bought on 2018sth. its exact i5-8250U. i want to use it as secondary computer in my parents home so i dont need to carry my current laptop across a long way. its 8gb ram and battery dead and i am thinking to upgrade it to 16gb and renew the battery. After watching this video, its basic performance is still good and i think i will go upgrade my laptop. thanks for doing video for old CPU to try to give the old laptop a second life.

I just bought a used laptop lenovo X280 for 950 Polish zlotys at today's exchange rate is $ 215 with the 8350U processor is actually the same as the 8250U only slightly overclocked. The games I've tried are

Skyrim SE 720p low - 30-50 fps is quite playable

Full HD resolution
Super hot - 40-60 fps
Factorio 60 fps
Hotline Miami 2 60 fps
Portal 2 - 90 fps depends of settings

Today I will test doom 2016 :)

When it comes to using the internet, youtube, social media, google services, there is no problem

Unfortunately, this processor will not allow smooth playback of 8K from Youtube

Too bad Fallout 4 is unplayable

I'll use it for light gaming, but i want to edit videos and program games. Would this work with this processor?

I am looking for a budget-friendly laptop intended for smooth software development(frontend, backend, embedded, not video game development) to replace my power-consuming i3-8100 & GTX 1060 6GB gaming PC and the i5-8250U might be a good bang-for-buck

My laptop has a Uhd620, i5 8250U, with 8gb ram. It's amazingly strong. You can run a lot on it with tweaking, currently playing through monster hunter world, and it runs around 30fps with the lowest graphics settings. And at 1280x720 resolution. It can run a lot

I run an ubuntu server on a i5-8250u old notebook. Nextcloud runs great without issues

It's Feb24 and i've had a Dell 5579 with i5-8250U since 2018. Over time i upgraded the RAM to 16GB & SSD to 1TB. It's always plugged in, the battery can barely last a movie. Maybe it even can't. I'm either running it on a 27 inch screen @2560*1440, or in 4K. I didn't expect it to, but it actually outputs 4k well enough to watch movies. What is annoying is that the fan tends to be on a lot, it's the one thing that's making me consider an upgrade. I dont game, i do the occasional CAD modeling & image work. Mostly excel & web browsing.
What should I buy to get a clear performance upgrade? My next laptop will have a smaller screen.

I have the same processor, with a buit in nvidia 940mx (2gb)16go of ram, 128 ssd nvme and 1to hdd, no problem at all and I have it since 2020(the only problem is that the battery can't hold on for more than 5 minutes 🤣 so it's always plugged).

i just ordered a Dell Latitude 2-in-1 with i7-8650u. Going to use it as a on the go companion and also a Visual Novel machine, although i already have a Dell Precision as a mobile workstation haha. Maybe that one is still going to stay on my working table for awhile haha.

I’ve always been an AMD fanboy, but found a laptop with this processor at a screaming deal and thought I’d try it out. Laptop is perfectly adequate for doing work on PowerPoint. Word stuff like that and play some old games sometimes. Friend has MacBook with M1 chip much more power efficient but also cost about five times more. Performance is comparable.

Entering '24 with this cpu, 8gb RAM and an SSD. Worked wll enough for GIMP and CaptureOne Sony with 6000x4000 images but need to move to lightroom/photoshop and wondering how it'll manage. Free trial ftw.

I had one in an Acer Swift, I believe it was the first quad core mobile i5?

I didn't game on it but it was fast for everyday stuff.

I use Acer spin sp513-52n with core i5-8250u cpu. When using power director 21 with intel quick sync enable, it took just 1.06 minutes to render 2.16 minutes of 1080p 30fps video and it took just 3.22 minutes to render 6.02 minutes of 2k 30fps video to 1080p 30fps video. Even 10 minutes of 4k 30fps video it took just 6.24 minutes to render to 1080p 30fps 11mbps video. But when edit 2k or 4k even set timeline to 720p, the playback are smooth until I add stabilization or add color grading, the playback will choppy and skip frame a lot.
