Sierra Nevada Drive: California 89 to Markleeville, Highway 4

Показать описание
This drive begins in South Lake Tahoe, and follows California Highway 89 south, through Markleeville, to the junction with Highway 4.

I made this trip in June 2018. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

Historical footage. Everything from 4:35 to the end was destroyed by fire in July 2021. Fire was a lightning strike on July 1, less than 2 miles from the Pacific Crest Trail. Hikers, any one of whom could have put out the fire, reported it. USFS watched it, even VISITED IT for 12 days without any attempt at suppression.
Day 13 fire breaks out destroyed half of Alpine County. There was a full snow pond right next to it, a single volunteer with a bucket would have fixed it. USFS stated in RGJ interview that they had no resources to fight this fire. That was AFTER the fire. BEFORE the fire, there wasn’t a SINGLE attempt to publicize the situation, never called for ONE volunteer. Helicopter video from JULY 10 shows the fire less than .25 acres, helicopter makes no attempt to put down anywhere, just looking.
No consequences, no public hearing. Business as usual.
Only Government can do this.
