This crowd is respectful and remain QUIET while he's playing. Very rare these days!

the way he sings almost makes the lyrics sound like an internal monologue. really beautiful.

one of those rare instances where an immensely talented guitarist also has a proper sense of restraint. incredibly nuanced playing.

For anyone who mistakes complexity and exhibitionism for talent and art, I submit the humble enchantment of this man’s music. It’s too bad that the charts rarely reflect the stuff that makes gods weep. Thank you, Jose Gonzalez.

Whoever disliked this needs to be ashamed and clear their ears. This is pure music.

Thank you mom and dad for paying for guitar lessons for me and my brother. 59 now and still playing. This guy melted me with his heart-felt soulful buttery voice and playing. Was able to play along

I was looking for some relaxing music to listen to while working, but this performance grabbed my full attention and had my heart hammering in my chest the entire time. He's so amazing.

Guitars: González plays an Alhambra classical guitar onstage and Alhambra, Esteve, and Córdoba classicals while recording.

Amps: for live performances, a Fishman Prefix Pro Blend in the Alhambra. When performing solo, he also plays into whatever condenser mic the venue supplies.

Strings: La Bella polished nylon, high tension.

Capo: Shubb C5 partial.

Picks: González plays only with his fingernails, reinforced with a nail strengthener.[15]

González consistently uses 'altered' guitar tunings in his tunes, de-tuning the 6th (E) string down to D for all his songs, with the 3rd (G) string altered between F#, G and A from tune to tune (e.g. A in his cover of Hand on Your Heart and F# in Heartbeats.) He does the retuning himself during live performances rather than using three different guitars on stage.

How one guy with one acoustic guitar can make so much music is beyond me! Fantastic!

How is it that all KEXP versions sound better than the original no matter who is playing. You guys are amazing. Thanks for this channel and for every video you put up so meticulously recorded.

One of my first musical loves. 16 year old, queues outside in the cold Manchester rain to get to the front of one of his gigs. Brilliant memories. I agree as well, he’s a humble artist never shows off, just turns up and does the job and melts faces.
