Thinking Time - Inkscape Developer Update 31st July 2021

This week I attempt to fix the connectors functionality which is dogged by problematic data traveling in the wrong directions! Spending time thinking about how to solve the problems of more dynamic lines and how to encode them in the guide line information.

It's always interesting to hear you talk about how you think about, partition, and work on functionality! This is the useful real-world stuff that you don't learn from the dozens of software tutorials returned by search engines.

I'm currently in a similar boat. I've thought about a problem I'm working on for most of this week, because I don't want to paint myself into an implementation corner that would require me to backtrack. (It's a distributed workload problem with locks and interprocess communication.) Unfortunately, sometimes you just never know until you try.

Maybe sometime in the future there will be voice drawing programs. 'Move that green box slightly to the right, please'. I am glad I don't have to do developing and programming anymore. Did a couple of big projects decades ago before there were laptops. I can relate to what you are going through. And how proud you are of yourself when it is all done and it is working well.

Interesting school experience. Sometimes not thinking has a place. Move away from the problem and come back to it. The issue will remain in the sub-conscious or back of your mind and magically the answer can present its self. Of course, it's not magic, but it can be a magic moment.
