This news was so shocking I literally grew hair. Can't wait for people to try to sell their clapped R1s for $27, 000 on CL and say its a "collector's item"

As a European this makes me sad. The R1 isn't even my favourite liter-bike, that'll be the RSV4, but it still sucks to see such an iconic bike get killed

excuse me he has the ability to grow hair?

The only problem is the fact that everything is 100% more expensive than it was 5 years ago. Since it's hard to even buy groceries, companies like yamaha charging 20K for a motorcycle means they won't be selling motorcycles.

I saw this coming a decade ago. Not just for the R1 but superbikes in general. I started riding in 1992 on an FZR 600. At that time you could get a top of the line 1000cc "monster" for about $6999. While still a lot of money it was within reach of us late teens early to mid 20's guys. When you start making your sportbikes only affordable to people who either get one and struggle to pay their bills or established older riders with great jobs what do you expect to happen to your sales? These bikes are designed for and flogged by 20-30 year olds and I don't know about you but 75% of this age group can't afford much more than the bare essentials let alone to toss out $25, 000-$35, 000 for a toy. Chevy did the same thing with the Camero. It was designed to be the young mans affordable Corvette. Now it's the same price or more expensive and they wonder why their target market doesn't buy them like they used too. I feel they should cut back on the the electronic B.S. and make them like they used to. Simple, fast, and affordable to the market that wants them. Fu$% the modes that 99% of people never use. Go with simple yet decent suspension that can be upgraded by the user. There is so much "Oh look at me I'm shiney and techy" on new bikes that is just stupid fluff that doesn't need to be there other than to add cost. Get back to what made the class great and stop fluffing them up with BS nobody needs on the street. Just my $.02.

I'm heartbroken! I'm 64 years old and STILL trying to figure out how I'm going to own a Yamaha R1 any year from 2003 and up! It's on my bucket list 😁!

I shared the info on the R1 going away with a buddy of mine and he climbed up on my deck rail and threatened to jump.. Brought him down with your video.. You've saved his life.

Hello Yammie. I'm in Uganda. Here our bikes only average about 125cc. There are some 150cc but mostly 100cc for public transportation. It has always been my dream to own a bike above 400cc. I hope to achieve it one day.

My local dealer knew that a year ago. All of them knew through their usual channels. They even ran a Facebook ad informing about last batch available and placed Feb 2024 as EoL date.

I have been curious why Yamaha hasn’t launched a next Gen R1. I now know why.

thankfully the r1 is just fiction, as we all know a stretched turbo busa is the only bike that actually exists

OMG this is horrible. Sad sad news.
The R1 is a legend since its 1st model. Breaks my heart to hear this.

I am not sure how I feel about it. I love my 2020 R1, its the most beautiful bike. I ride it at the track mainly and it only has 3, 500 miles. The Zx6r is what I ride the most and my CBR 600RR. I've always wanted the newer style R6 but they pricey AF.

Never tried an R1, but I have a Tracer 9 (CP3 engine), there's no way that could keep up with an R1.
An R9 with a CP3 isn't really a replacement for an R1, it would probably be as fast as an R6, but with more power on lower RPMs.

Last month I went to my Yamaha dealership here in El Salvador (Central America) and the sales guy told me that if I wanted an R6 that I could get one... apparently the Japan factory still makes the R6 by special order and can be sent to countries with no emission regulations (or not as strict at least). I figure the R1 and R1M would be the exact same treatment... I hope this gives us a bit of hope for the future.

I live in the UK, and unless you are a trackday enthusiast, a sportsbike is a high-priced, high-maintenance licence shredder. Camera monitored low-speed limits (eg. almost all of Greater London is now 20mph) are making anything fun a thing of the past.
