Genesis GV60 vs Tesla Model Y: A CUT ABOVE?

Genesis, the luxury arm of the Hyundai Motor Corporation, has just revealed its compact electric crossover – the GV60. This car takes on the reigning king of that segment, the Tesla Model Y. In this video, I’ll perform a side by side comparison of the exterior, interior, tech, performance, and pricing of these two EV’s, and we’ll find out if the GV60 is a cut above the Model Y.

GV60. Prefer to drive in comfort with many more added features than the basic Tesla.

Gv60 looks fantastic and more appealing to the eye from every angle.
Tesla has the edge on drag times and charging but not for long until the others catch up.
For everyday usage drag times are irrelevant.
For me it's looks, comfort, performance, charging flexibility.
Aiming to get an ev in late 2022 and I'm sure more options will appear.

Due to repetitive delays in delivery of my Model Y I ordered back in January 2022, I placed my name on waiting lists with 10 different dealerships for an Ioniq5 Limited Trim. Turns out Hyundai produced a limited number of this top trim. Luckily I had the opportunity to discver the GV60! Yes, it shares the same platform as IONIQ5, but the GV60 is definitely a step above the Ioniq5 and it blows the Model Y away in terms of build quality and comfort! I cannot believe how quiet and comfortable my GV60 rides at any speed despite having the 21 inch wheels! The range could be better, but for my everyday driving, it’s plenty! Genesis’ warranties and 3 years of free charging (up to 80%) with Electrify America really help make it a complete package with my purchase!

I have since cancelled my Model Y order. Glad I don’t have to worry about the ride quality and the “phantom braking” issues with my new EV. I was only willing to accept these issues as there weren’t any choices for EVs back in Jan 2022. Watch out Tesla! You have some competition now!

Luckily I live in an area with Electrify America stations convenient for me. Overall, the infrastructure to support the growing EV population needs to grow faster!

GV60 is cheaper and Model Y is more expensive than the prices shown. I think the GV60 is a better deal.

Big fan of both hyundai and tesla but hyundai has better options and build quality, seen many reviews about tesla build problems and cabin noise so if I had to choose I'd pick hyundai genesis

GV60. The persistent problems with "phantom braking" alone would keep me from buying the Model Y. The GV 60 looks better inside and out, and I will use the tech features it offers while I likely would never use full self-driving. Add in the tax credit and Elon Musk and it is a no-brainer for the Genesis. The only advantage I see of the Tesla is range and charging network. I will live with that given the issues noted above.

Clear explanation / outline.
Ive just priced the gv60 awd in the uk. Around £62k depending which options you pick and same for the tesla once you add in paint and a couple of options such as enhanced autopilot (not the full FSD).
The Genesis is very attractive but it grates to pay that much and still be searching for chargers when on long trips unlike with the SuperCharge network.
I also suspect the Tesla will hold its value much better than the genesis so the price difference is likely in favour of the tesla. A hard choice to make. I do find the genesis much more attractive than the ionic 5 or the ev 6 OTOH it is substantially more expensive of course

After everything I've seen with the Tesla over time, you couldn't GIVE me one. I've been exploring different EVs. Had a Ford Explorer Hybrid YEARS ago, so I HAVE had a taste. I just can't bring myself to being hogtied by Tesla nor the risk of someone ordering a $25K add on my pushing the wrong set of buttons. The GV60 is my front runner at the moment. I like the styling, the extras and the technologies that are included. Teslas may have the sexier exterior styling, but all of the other issues are simply not worth it.
