Good night PunPun was the first book I’ve read from him. It’s such a masterpiece of a book and most likely the best manga I’ve ever read. It’s so hard to explain to someone why it’s so good though because of how much crazy themes they are so they’re going to think “This is just depressive gory slop”

I love Goodnight Punpun because of how real it feels and how relatable it can be to other people. And I just love how much internal turmoil it brings inside of you, you want to like Punpun but he has done terrible things off of traumaz

Great video, I'd probably give the same recommendations for first timers as you did! I figure I'd just throw this out there, but there is a Solanin epilogue out there (very short, only like 50 pages) that was done as a 10 year time skip in the story but was actually completed a near full 10 years after the main book came to English. It was a convention exclusive, so you'll be hard pressed to find a physical copy, but you can get it digitally. It was a pretty good top off to the story and plays on the story's themes quite well! So I recommend giving that a shot to anyone who likes the main story if you haven't already!

So wild you posted this a few days after I got nijigahara holograph hardcover and first couple punpun volumes, now I am waiting for solanin and the rest of punpun!! Decided to start from the beginning of their work (in English) as well as Junji Ito & Taiyo Matsumoto. Got Tomie/uzumaki/gyo & tekkonkinkreet/ping pong/gogo monster so ready to dive in!! (Already finished nijigahara… don’t know if I fully understood the story so I’ll have to reread it lol) Thanks for recommendations like always!!
