Reminds me of CoD4 when semi auto weapons didn’t have a cooldown and thus theoretically an infinite rate of fire. Snipers and pistols were basically shotguns and the G3 was an unstoppable laser beam. Oh and ofc you shoot with the mouse wheel :D

I doubt it has to do with APM anymore and more to do with a higher chance of activating an ability as soon as possible when spamming compared to trying to time a single press.

I remember watching a pro StarCraft 2 show match that was 2v2v2v2 and they had so much APM, one of the zerg players spent like 5 minutes doing nothing but microing his ever growing swarm of zerglings

I think of it similar to "gunners jitter" in IRL tank combat, on older tanks there was a foot pedal to fire the gun, so tank gunners would bounce thier legs as fast as possible to build up anticipation and momentum so they could lift their foot onto the pedal faster to get off a shot. I do this when playing stuff like CSGO by jittering side to side so if somebody peaks my fingers already moving downwards on both keys so I can quickly duck back around a corner.

Don’t know if anyone’s watched Gumayushi’s pov but his son seems way higher than most professionals, I’m guessing that his brother Innovation (an SC2 pro) introduced him to the game and he got it from that.

Spamming a key is important and knowing how to spam extremely fast is crucial in many games.

For an Obvious Example: In DOTA2's most famous clip, "The Play", Dendi, LOH and Havost spammed their keys so fast that they were able to dodge a stun during a few miliseconds time.

Spamming your bkb while hoping the enemy team do not line up their stuns accurately....

As a Starcraft fan this doesn't sit entirely right, APM is a good measure for how much people are trying to do at once (especially in BW) and was something people did put a lot of (probably too much) faith into, but categorizing most of it as spam to get higher stats isn't entirely right. A lot of these actions weren't necessary in the game sense but much like in League most people didn't do it to have some higher APM stat or smth, rather it's to keep their fingers ready in case some high tension situation comes up suddenly where they suddenly need their fingers to be fast, since switching from slow to fast isn't something you can do instantly.
Also APM didn't really fall off in SC2 because of the EAPM stat (I dont think I've ever seen that one used, and still occasionally see APM used), rather it fell off because it's usually hugely inflated by rapidfire buttons (mostly single keys that replace mouse clicks that you can hold down to spam abilities) and high repeat rates (holding down the z button to build zerglings could be around 30 actions in like a second)

That's not really what this is about. In rts games you want to have production cycles as often as possible and that spam through your production is useful to have as a constant habit. This is one of the things that lets pros have such efficient resource usage.
In league I believe its used for attack move to improve kiting. Plus the consistent indicator of attack range is nice.

The correction was WAY before SC2, after the APM hype people started filtering out null clicks pretty quick.

It looks like his movement command is bound to his keyboard, along with attack move. So him spamming the key is to move, not to inflate his APM.

Not for apm, in this case he is spamming a key that get him to attack the champion the closest to his mouse and not miss on another unit

APM and league lmfao. That game barely has micromanaging if it has any at all. Dota is the only MOBA game i've seen where APM actually matters on specific heroes.

It's fidgeting, if you're playing a game with constant action and there's a pause you're subconsicously trying to keep the adrenaline going so you start pressing random buttons usually ones that have no bind....

wasn't that the auto attack button the guy spamming?

Apm is a dumb concept
When I think about what I do thats not traceable
Its like measuring how much you eat to judge what and why you did between those meals

people usually go for high apm because if they're going for it the whole game it warms them up for the instances where they really do require high apm. was the same for StarCraft iirc (but really high apm was def still used to flex lol)
