With the expansion of the 'gig economy' more and more people are working for multiple firms at the same time, or are both employed and self-employed at the same time, which means they could be paying too much National Insurance Contributions without realising!

Hi Simon. Nice video. I believe that you are able to pay Class 2 voluntary contributions if you are living and working abroad and paying into that countries social security system. For me that is Canada and I pay EI or Employee Insurance every pay day. You have to have lived and worked in the UK immediately prior to moving and working abroad.

Thank you Simon! Is it possible to claim NICs refund from HMRC for personal pension contribution to SIPP (Self-invested personal pension)? For workplace pension, when contribution is paid via PAYE, it is free of NICs. Is any rule about NICs on personal pension contribution to SIPP?

Is it better to get a job and pay class 1 than to pay class 3?
