The 70 Mai is back with the PRO version.
Packaging is comparable to last year’s 70 Mai. Black box, with space utilization brought to the possible maximum.
Size of the device is bigger because of the added screen. Not touch – which I so much appreciate! This button navigation feels so natural that you don’t even need to get used to it. Simple, clean, menus are tidy, only the necessary stuff. We can see the obvious differences on the outside, now let’s move on to the inside. I am not going to disassemble, and even without doing so, we know – Huawei chipset - Hi3556V100 – the same one is powering the ultra popular yi lite action camera. Sensor is severely upgraded too – IMX 335 f/1.8. A 5 megapixel sensor which is among the newest used in dashcams and the 70 mai pro is one of the first on the market featuring this technology. For something that new – it seems to be adopted pretty well. Resolution support is up to 1944p, which is a little weird, but let’s say – 1440p is there from these that you know better, and of course FULL HD. MicroSD card support goes as high as 64GB.

The hardware is apparently high grade, let’s see how it works in real life and – of course – let’s discuss the software goodies – Parking mode is available. To use it – you need hard wiring.
This parking mode is of course optional, but nice to have. The software now supports WDR – giving slight improvement of the footage, voice control, improved night vision performance, and Advanced Driver-Assistance System. I am still about to test the ADAS – because it requires a GPS module which I don’t have yet. And the ADAS technology can be very helpful to avoid collisions, to park easily or to just get a warning you are about to leave the lane. On theory sounds good, and sort of explains the powerful chipset that is inside this little beast.

As for installation – takes literally a few minutes. Also, the way it is being installed places the pro much closer to the windschield, as opposed to its predecessor, and this will reduce any reflections coming from the glass and even dirt won’t be that noticeable.
You are now the jury for the footage – and feel free to share your verdict in the comments below. If wondering about my opinion – I like what I see. Usually second generations tend to be a huge fiasco, deffinetely not for the 70 mai PRO. Kind of twice more in terms of price, and in return you get a nice display with super easy to use function buttons, upgraded sensor, chipset and lens, better mount mechanism, smarter functions and an upgrade possibility – adding a hardwire for parking monitoring, and gps for enabling Advanced Driver-Assistance System. For just 69 in US currency – this is quite tempting. Looks like at this very moment this may be the perfect balance between price, build quality and features.

Just as a note for anyone looking to purchase this. The USB cable that comes with the camera angles up toward the top of the windshield. He mentions that the one he is using in the review was for another camera. That must be why it angles down. If you are looking to install this in a permanent way it will look much better angled up. The wire seems to be good quality. I stripped off the other end so I can wire it into my fuse box with a 12v5v adapter and it was a much better cable than came with my Yi dash cam

Just purchased the Pro GPS version in Australia, very impressed with the video quality and overall operation. The GPS module was only a few dollars more so included that in the purchase not being aware that the only extra feature was the ADAS which is already a standard feature built into our car. I think I can confidently assume the GPS will be utilised more with firmware upgrades. It far excels our previous dash cam (which was over twice the price). The higher resolution and premium lens really makes a enormous difference.

I recommend everyone doing hard wiring to use the biggest fuse out there. If you are good with tools you can take a thick (the thicker possible) and stick it in there. This way your fuse will not burn anymore. I strongly recommend to do the same with all the fuse in thy car. Remember those annoying times when a fused got broken and the system on it stopped working? Well using the biggest ones in the world or diy as I described with a thick copper wire will solve this for good! No more broken fused!

As usual another great video/review and thank you!. This looks to be a promising dash cam especially at the USD price point. I realize YouTube does not always do video justice but the "fisheye" stood out for me (whilst for others the impact might not be as bothersome. Albeit, not a deal breaker). The pin connectors for GPS module sure bring back memories (Viofo A119 V1)

Great review. Two things:
1) I was under the impression the built-in 500mA battery was all that is needed for parking mode. No?
2) The product ships with 2 electrostatic "stickers" so as to eliminate having to stick the attachment directly to the windshield, and thus avoiding any residue once removed

1. the dashcam automatically turns on once the car starts, is this correct?
2. if yes, will it automatically record too?
3. if #1 and #2 are yes, will it automatically save the video when it's turned off? no need to push any buttons or do voice commands?

Hello, what resolution do you use for your camera? Since I have problems with reading the highest resolution on my phone. Also at night I started to think that the highest resolution doesnt gives me any adventages in comparision with 1080p ? Or I am wrong ?
