FortNine put me on Helite, been riding with the Turtle 2 for a few months now. Texas summer was pretty brutal with the extra layer, but being confident that my neck and spine will be stabilized is worthwhile. I'll get the rucksack sometime in the future, seems like a smart consolidation of gear. Cheers.

In helite’s own videos you can also see the airbag extending
below the rucksack to cover the lower back, but it doesn’t seem to do this in the demonstration with Ryan. I wonder why.

Apart from that, the Turtle 2 seems safer because it also protects parts the side of your torso.
I’m also not sure the shoulder airbag parts of the rucksack blow up as much as the turtle 2. If they don’t you’ll have less neck/spine protection, but it was a bit hard to see properly in the demonstration.

I have one coming tomorrow. Back to biking after 30 years, said I would be as safe as possible. Backpack seems the perfect way. Useful and safe at the same time. 👍

I had one of their Air Jackets, saved my life as well when I got t-boned! I'm getting the backpack now as I can use it it riding or not, it just becomes part of my daily kit.

Money can’t buy a new back or neck. This really is a no brainer. Should be ideally shown when you are learning.

I've been using a Helite adventure jacket for years. Warm in the winter and well ventilated in the summer. Clicking in is second nature, I don't even thing about it anymore. I did get to test it out in a parking lot accident and even at an almost zero-speed tip over it fired and protected my hip and back from impact. I'm a trauma nurse and so I value gear that keeps me riding.

I did a lot of research before I bought my turtle 2. Coming back from Colorado in July it was over 100°. None of the front venting was impeded by the vest so I stayed comfortable. I also was wearing my cooling vest so cooling was at it's best. Since I have 3 helmets at over $800 I didn't think this was money poorly spent for another safety feature.

I own and always wear a Bering C protect Airvest . Now I am considering buying an electronic Helite Airvest

I have this and love it. There is a small storage space even with the backpack removed. Has only gone off once at a tip over on a stop on gravel (misread the camber) it deployed as I lowered the bike down somewhat gently. New canister and good to go

Great video. I just had my first crash, at low speed luckily, just 25 mph but it can still hurt. So when my bike comes back from the shop, I am going to byu a Helite Turtle 2 Hiviz vest. It is better to look like a banana and save your live, rather than looking cool.

Very interesting and informative. After hearing about your accident and how this saved you it’s something I’m going to look in to.

Congrats on the new job mate 🙂 I can't wear a rucksack while riding due to a shoulder injury, even a skinny Camelback with water bladder wrecks my shoulder in no time, be interesting to see if one of these without the bag would still cause me issues. I like that it is resettable by the owner rather than having to send it away to reset it.

Bought mine in mai, RAD Brussels shop, influenced by RF9. I commute for about 30k kms a year on an XR, Brussels Antwerp, lanefiltering, all year all weather.
When you are constanly riding between cars and HGV's lanefiltering the motorways in rush hour, it sure gives some peace of mind.
I must say, with the die-hard commuter riders (the ones i see in bad weather) it is getting a lot of use thesedays.

Which offers more protection, the turtle or the backpack? Same?

Can the electronic version be mechanically triggered as well? Just in case the it fails...

I wear a Helite vest most of the time and have never met another biker on the road with one. I think most bikers are too vain to wear them and would rather spend the money on a race can or snazzy jacket instead of something that will make the difference between being carried away or walking away from an accident
