From what I could tell of your throwing technique from your shadow in the video, you are throwing your rope dart like a throwing knife. While that can work, the technique which more often ensures penetration is spin the dart on about 18 inches of cord with the he balance of the cord held in loose loops in the opposite hand, release the line when you reach the top or bottom of your spin (this assumes a vertical spin) so the dart launches on a tangent to the spin's circle towards your target. A rope dart typically has a dart weighing at least a pound. The same throwing technique is used for the Chinese weapons called Meteor Hammers--which typically have a weight of two or more pounds.

Great weapon, you just have to tell your opponent to stand totally still while you make repeated attempts to get it right.

i took ey uh old dvd rom case from a desktop pc my parents were throwing out and i made a set of throwing knives outa the casing. surprisingly rigid, well balanced and razor sharp. like if i wanted to i could shave with them. you inspired me sir. be proud.

There is a fishing reel that is spring loaded. So maybe if you attached your rope to a slightly scaled up version of the reel it would make retracting a lot easier

technically, he hit his target every time. If he hit the attacker in any vital organ, there would most likely be external bleeding. Maybe even internal, depending on if he hit a vital organ. He was mainly trying to show that it would hook into someone, let alone hitting them with it.

A suggestion if you can do metal work on your own (Working on my own soon) try to do a double edged set up, with barbs on the lower end of the blade, and a flattened wood handle connected to the cord. When you sharpen, don't do a razor edge, that can weaken the blade and make it less effective. And finally throw with a over-hand handle knife throw (really easy to learn). Should work a bit better.

Dude, you have some amazing weapon creation skills. You even managed to incorporate a hook. :) But rope darts aren't used like that. I can tell you're new to the weapon. Tip: for all rope weapons including whips, rope darts etc, remember to go with the flow.

go back to the straight bladed one for faster withdraw. that couldn't pull anything large back at your and resetting the box every time is annoying. also swing three full rotations then just before the up or down swing reaches the target let go allowing the momentum to impale the blade into the target

He's a sound point. Not a bunch of bone...all just squishy stuff, easy to slice through. I agree with you, though. Easier said than done as it would take near super human accuracy to hook something that big into something the size of a quarter.

If you where to use this in combat to pull a target towards you I would recommend hooking through the eye socked collar bone or the fleshy part under the jaw.

the greatest thing about this weapon system is that you do not have to learn how to throw it it will always fly straight (because the rope pulls it thats why ninjas had feathers on their throwing weapon) it bounced because it wasn't straight you probably needed to be a bit farther back or needed more drag.

The problem with  your dart is that its too rear heavy thereby destabilizing it, i happen to throw rope darts as a major hobby and can tell you that its better to use a knife like a kunai with a heavier blade and a lighter handle, also from your shadow it looked like you were throwing it in an underhand thorn style, I would recommend swinging it on a 3 foot length of rope overhand, it is best for extreme power at relative close range whereas I can throw a dart about 30 feet underhand.

you need a kind of stand thing to hold the target up to about the height where the top of the target is around eye level or higher then you won't have trouble sticking it in if you know how
