Naturi Naughton: I Really Had to Fight for Role on 'Power'

First off, Naturi affirms that her road to securing the role of Tasha St. Patrick was a conventional one which included an audition, followed by a call-back, and finally a screen test. Although Naturi landed the gig she confesses, "It was a challenge though, because I was a little young for the role," and she reveals that people from the network questioned her ability to play opposite an older Omari Hardwick.

"I really had to fight for this role. And eventually, after multiple tests I had two tests and I got the part. So, I'm very lucky to be playing the ride-or-die wifey on the show," explains a thankful Naughton.

Later, the conversation covers 50 Cent's hands-on involvement with 'Power,' which is described as "instrumental" to sustaining the show's authenticity. When the interview turns to 50's character on the show, Kanan, getting released from jail, Naturi says, "It's really interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing how the fans react. He's gonna cause some havoc."

The clip concludes with Naturi sharing some of the unexpected situations that she experienced while working with 50 Cent. Although she was nervous to work with the celebrated star, she reveals that he told her her screen presence was "very big."

A little younger? (11y) She's amazing as Tasha, just as manipulative as Ghost, big sister to Tommy, & housewife for her children. Quite a mix of characteristics in just one role.

It would be nice to see Tasha fight for her husband and their family. It is obvious that she was very instrumental in helping Ghost  get to where he is and I think season 3 should highlight why he loves her and chose her to be his wife and not the side chick.  Instead of her character evolving into the angry black woman I would like to see her strength and intelligence shine through on camera!!  She needs to beat Angela and get he man back!
