Gordon Ryan doesn't really do anything crazy from mount. Get the underhook and walk it up over and over again. In this video we talk about why this strategy is so effective as a mount attack.

So crazy to see Gordon using the mounted system in the most recent Danaher DVD and to have it be out for us to study and drill.

Imagine football fans getting Pep Guardiola instructionals with 10 hours of how to press effectively... we are in a sense lucky our sport is small enough that the top of the mountain is accessible. If top athletes were paid 500k a match they may not have incentive to share their best stuff at bjj fanatics for a couple hundred dollars. Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't share his s&c program or meal prep... but any bjj athlete would do it for pocket change.

This is so true! I’ve watched his mount instructional 6 or 7 times in a row and I can vouch that he specifically says he reboots the system every time they bridge and explode in an attempt to escape. He knows the first attempt will likely be unsuccessful, so he reboots and continues to melt them down until they just can’t keep up anymore.

"Cooking them" is what I believe the Gracies called it.

Crazy how this is now becoming a more known strategy and my coach has been teaching us this for the past 4 years

Literally the old school Gracie philosophy of burning out your opponent first.

Its hilarious and awesome that the method of Jiu Jitsu taught to use back in the 90's is now coming into vogue as being the new thing.

If one guy has gravity on his side, he's using less energy. GR can lean into his grips and put THAT much more pressure on the arm, so he can put on pressure for much longer than it can be defended

This is really great! In theory, the underhook is just about position, but in practice it becomes a means to an end

He made another key adjustment to hold his mount too by weaving his leg from halfguard immediately back into mount as he tried to hip escape.

The squeeze Gordon is applying with his is insane. Khabib does the same

I do remember an instructional talking about having that underhand grip to hold his opponents hands down

Ok… Let’s go back to old school BJJ again :) Thank you very much! It’s always a cycle who goes back to the traditional. Now we are on time again 😂

Listening to this I felt like Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg was explaining this breakdown

Men only want one thing and it’s the underhook

Glad Gordon is out here making mount cool again. Was starting to get a little tired of the current meta of spamming back attacks endlessly.

People get amazed with Gordon's style, this shows how far sport jiu-jitsu is watered down. His style is super basic with a little of new school jiu-jitsu but this guy is super effective with his style.
