"Tῇ ypermachῳ stratigῷ winning,
As lytrotheisa suffering thanksgiving,
Indication thee Citizens Theotokos you.
But as having the state aprosmachiton,
EC Padoa with risk of release,
INA caw thee; Hail, Bride anymfefte ".
On August 8 , the City had been saved from the greatest threat as it's history. The people wanted to celebrate his salvation, which attributed to assistance of Mary, gathered at the Church of Our Lady of Blachernae. Then, according to tradition, standing crowd chanted since the so-called "Akathist Hymn" to Mary, giving the "winning" and gratitude "tῇ ypermachῳ stratigῷ".
In the prevailing view, could not be synthesized in the hymn overnight. So, was probably composed earlier and even considered sung in this temple in the vigil of 15 August each year. Just that day hymn chanted "orthostadin" and replaced the hitherto preamble ("The prostachthen secretly handles knowingly") with the currently used as "Tῇ ypermachῳ stratigῷ Winning", which gave the doxological and laudatory tone in until then narrative and doctrinal hymn.
But according to other historical sources, the Akathist connected with other similar events, such as the siege and the salvation of Constantinople on the Emperors Constantine Pogonatos ( 673 ), Leo the Isaurian ( 717 - 718 ) and Michael III ( 860 ) . Given the then historical conditions ( iconoclastic controversy , etc.), it is considered unlikely that the delivery had not altered the historical reality, which makes it very difficult to say with certainty what was the historical context of the creation of the hymn.
