I was scrolling through my Facebook feed when I saw a post from my friend about how her dog had passed away. I clicked on the link to see the video of her dog and started to cry. As I was watching the video, I noticed that there were comments below it. People were leaving messages like "RIP" and "So sorry for your loss." I decided to comment on the video and tell my friend how much I loved her dog and how sorry I was for her loss. As soon as I hit enter, I realized that my comment was going to be at the top of the thread. I quickly hit the delete button, but it was too late. My friends had already seen my comment.

The next day, my phone rang and it was my friend. She told me that she had seen my comment and that she appreciated the sentiment, but that it made her feel sadder. She thanked me for being supportive and we hung up.

I felt terrible that I had made my friend feel worse. But then I thought about it some more and I realized that maybe my friend needed to see that someone cared about her dog even though he was gone. And maybe by me commenting on the video, it made other people feel like they could reach out to her too.
