Abaqus / Z-cracks 3D fatigue crack propagation

This video presents an automatic 3D crack propagation simulation obtained using an Abaqus / Z-cracks coupling process. A sequential fatigue loading is considered: for a given static crack position, a loading sequence is imposed and a finite element solution is obtained using Abaqus. Thus, using the Z-set/Z-cracks module, the .odb file is post-processed to extract energy release rate and to apply a branching criterion, a Paris law is involved to compute a crack front extension, and a robust adaptive remeshing is performed to generate an updated cracked geometry. Thus, the process loops to the next Abaqus finite element solution stage.
