House Concerts - The Unseen Music Scene

Music has always brought people together. It’s a part of our culture that has the capacity to break down our usual barriers, whether it’s at a stadium that seats twenty thousand, a small local venue, an open mic night, a basement show, or a house concert.

House concerts are put on by those who are passionate about music — so much so, they’re willing to lend their personal space to the community and the artist. Each show is different depending on the home, the amplification or lack thereof, the food and drink, as well as how the artist is compensated.

Aside from logistics, the informal and typically small setting creates an environment where artists and listeners can be more intimate with one another. Performers are able to reach a new audience, and concert-goers get to experience live music in an unparalleled atmosphere.

This documentary was created by myself and fellow Champlain College student, Olivia Lyons, as our capstone project for the Broadcast Media Production Senior final piece. We wrote, produced and edited the video.
