FAA:
"Oh you want a license to land propulsively?
This century?
We'll see what we can do."

NASA: SpaceX in case of total parachute failure integrate a safety procedure to use Draco thrusters to land.
NASA: Boeing in case you are able to launch capsules into space again with astronauts please ensure space suits are compatible with SpaceX dragon for rescue purposes.

Thus SpaceX has designed and built the perfect escape pod. Reliable thrusters, lots of room, multi parachute failure mode as well as pure thrust landings.

They should do a demonstration so we get to see it at least once

Thats insane and i think under appreciated. Thats 5 levels of redundancy 😮

That is insanely safe. What are even the odd of all 4 parashutes falling and then it'll just land propulsively 🙈

Do it, prove it, then keep it as ready-if-needed. It may give Dragon a Luna or Mars lander rating.

It is risky, but cool still
Parachutes are convenient.

SpaceX should test thia capability on a crs mission, just swap out the cargo dragon with an uncrewed crew dragon and try to land it with the superdracos after it has completed it's primary mission

I have always thought of that, if the parachute fails, can spacex use the superdracos to propulsively soft splash in the ocean.

IS THAT A LEMONADE PRIME BOTTLE IN THE DESK NEAR THE BEGINNING OF THE VIDEO😂

Perhaps NASA is thinking of Lunar Crew-Dragon?

Howdy from Temple, Texas!

Honestly, SpaceX has so much down it shocks me that the government will not just give them free rain so we could advance technology just a little bit quicker

SpaceX decided to go with a water landing because of the legs could jeopardize the heat shield and add cost. IMO, SpaceX would still go for the water landing using the Dracos should all four parachutes fail. I think they should try it first on a cargo Dragon to test and prove it out first to validate that backup landing option.

space x: our capsules are so safe we added 4 redundancy systems, 3 parachutes and propulsive landing systems for emergency

boeing: our thrusters won't go brrr

I have a feeling this will lead to SpaceX landing Dragon propulsively on land..
. 🤔

the emergency thrusters would also be really useful in the situations where they've ended up in a too steep trajectory for the drogue chutes to deploy, like if they were to deorbit for too long that they'd still be moving far too quickly near the ground, then they'd be useful here for just slowing down.

they'd also be useful if landing on land, which could happen if deorbit went for too short or too long, since their landing site would be different, and possibly not in water. here, they might want to use the thrusters to reduce impact as much as possible, because the impact and deceleration force from land will be alot higher than for water.

of course the 2 above situations would be unlikely (especially for deorbiting too long), but, anything can go wrong. and, the situation of deorbiting too steep and exploding on impact because the drogues couldn't deploy has happened to me in kerbal space program.

Yes but they need to test the thruster landing right. 😁😀💡🚀

ok that's pretty friggin' safe

Since the SpaceX crew dragon can propulsively land like a UFO that means it could be greatly used as a Mars Ascent Descent Vehicle MADV
