It sounds like the microphone is clipping, is that right? Would reducing the input level solve the problem? Would love to see this configured as WIFI Direct without any access point.

That's essentially what I want to make, a simple pair of esp8266 or esp32 walkie talkies that use WIFI direct.

Looks like you're using a MEMS mic with the ESP32. Did you document the hardware that you used, or could you perhaps provide a wiring diagram? I had a look at your Github repository, but can't find it.

Do you also code in Python? I would like to listen to the data from the ESP32 client(s) I2S microphone at the server using Python. Then I would like to record and analyze the sound data, for example counting how many times certain sounds / day occurred in the recording. ( about noise pollution project) Can you help please?
