The description and explanation of the election system in Germany is excellent. The major difference between the US and Germany is the number of competing parties. Two parties have the tendency to divide the country by getting more and more extremist, eg. USA; too many parties create chaos, eg. Weimarer Republik. Germany has just the right "Grundgesetz". Simple sentences: "Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar"; "Die Wohnung ist unverletzlich", "Die Todesstrafe ist abgeschafft" oder "Eine Zensur findet nicht statt"

9:43 Actually, the Bundestag districts _ARE_ redrawn if needed because they are supposed to have roughy the same number of people, so sometimes it's necessary to redraw them to reflect demographic changes. It's not every 10 years like in the US however, but only when it is felt that there is a need, then the law detailing the districts is changed. And most importantly, gerrymandering is pointless since the number of members of parliament a party gets doesn't depend on the winners of districts, but on the list votes. Which means redrawing voting districts is fairly uncontroversial in Germany.

No one in my bubble dares to tell who will win this election either. Personally I like that the Greens mix it up a little this time.

I like the dalek on the shelf. Daleks are the best expression for the status of our democracy..., different opinions, eliminate!!!
A bunch of elite idiots try to grab and keep power, forgetting or ignoring the real needs of the country and the people.
Explained.

You should have added that Merkel will stay the commissarial chancellor of Germany until the Bundestag has elected a new chancellor with the majority of the votes of its representatives; this may take a while.

Well a very important thing you forgot to mention is, that you dont have to rgister to vote. If you are german citizen and got the right age you are allowed to vote without further registration. that fact together with the fact that the representation as a whole is connected to the real percentage of all voters makes german democracy look like a real democracy compared to the US that looks like a bannana republic with its electoral college, the gerrymandering, the voter registration and all those different laws to supress even legal and registered voters. 😂

I'm not at all a fan of the american voting system. Obviously that is the reason why it is a so called 'flawed democracy'. The restriction for two periods in charge is though very much likeable.

You actually lost me, when you explained the Zweitstimme - and being a German I know (roughly) how it is supposed to work. Maybe a little drawing might have helped. Nevertheless, you did a good job. I see, that you are used to doing your research.

Maybe you should have mentioned, that being forced to work together after the election in a coalition softens the discussion before election eve because after the election you probably will have to work with those people that are now your "opponents". There is no "winner takes it all" and that makes a lot of difference I think.
