The Problem With Persona 5's Spin Offs

Hey guys it's Tiller and today we're talking about Persona 5 spin offs and the issues with them as a whole.

I think some people might immediately direct this towards the idea that there are too many spin offs but I don't think that's the case. I think the problem is the order of the spin offs and the pipeline ATLUS is following to create them.

Persona 4 and its spin offs were done in a way that made sense. You had your game and its "deluxe" version out a whole year before the first canon spin off. While there was a mild story inconsistency, it was ultimately resolved in the next part of the canon spin off.

However, Persona 5 has an issue where all of its spin offs kind of come out. They either lack content or have issues fitting into the canon of the story. We know for sure that if ATLUS releases another Persona spin off they will write around this problem but it's still a bit disheartening to see.

So really what I'm getting at is that I think the problem is the spin off pipeline ATLUS has was done in the wrong order. It feels like it was hastily done to get spin offs out rather than to fully encapsulate the feelings that P4's spin offs did.

Yeah, this is pretty much the only reason I'm entertaining the idea of a Persona 5 Arena because I feel like that would be the perfect way to cap off the spinoff era since Persona 5 Dancing was thrown out way too early. I doubt we're going to get that, but at the same time they could just as easily announce it in the middle of the night as soon as I head to bed. Atlus is kind of unpredictable with these things.

There are so many different perspectives to look at this from, and we'll never know the full story. You bring up a lot of great points about the canon and longevity 5's legacy and I agree with all of them, but at the same time it was smart of them to invest more heavily in spin-offs at the front so the hype would continue through the years. If you go by US release dates its P5 in 2017, P5D in 2018, PQ2 in 2019, P5R in 2020, P5S in 2021, and P5R ports in 2022, so 1 game a year which is pretty damn impressive and keeps the games in peoples minds. So from a business angle I think they made the right move investing in the spin-offs ahead of time instead of waiting until after P5R came out. On top of that, I could see them porting all the Persona dancing games to other systems in 2023 and adding Q2, Royal, and Strikers content to P3D and P5D to make it a definitive edition.

Yeah I’m on the notion that Strikers should of happened AFTER royal - or at least made a DLC for the game.

Persona 5 Strikers somehow ended up being one of my favorite games of all time

When you realize some of it are demands from fans in Japan especially some like P3D was made due to how P4D was successful that the producer said and he also bring P5 due to being the recent release another thing is PQ2 and P5R some JP fans answer the Atlus consumer survey voted that two things to brought up and lastly is P5S a lot of it are also address in the surveys and a lot of it wanna see a Persona Warriors/musou game.

Honestly, I'm hoping that Atlus does a remaster of the Persona dancing games for modern systems and PC. All the DLC built in, a few new tracks to cover royal, strikers and Q2, a little more polish and everything available on the quickplay menu. That game would be my jam.

Honestly though, I'm hoping 5 gets a proper story spinoff or two before P6 that heavily includes royal content because the 3rd semester is the best part of P5 and it's not close.

Royal is basically like all these movies where something is suppose to happen but doesn't and they have to fix it. The characters departed and things went back to the way they were. Its like an alternate reality like if kasumi and maruki existed. So that reality isn't really cannon. It is still in between 5 and strikers tho. But just not cannon cause it's not the cannon reality but an alternate one

i feel like royal released too soon after the main game released or it could have been a DLC for the game instead of re-releasing the entire game with new content. I havent played strikers so i dont know how much it adds onto the base game yet.

the spin offs for P4 make more sense: the PQ games are very stand-alone and take place during the year for all the games it covers and has reasons to why the characters from each game wouldnt bring up the events of what happened in the story later on in thier games or spinoffs, P4A (and P4AU) didnt really matter for the story of either i felt because golden didnt change too much of P4

I just got to this vid after Amazon sold Google that I started interessting myself about the SMT genre because eShop end. Actually I never played a Persona Game so far as I whas the Nintendo Kid back then. I clicked on this video because I heard of the hype of it and because I got interessted about Strikers as it could be the first Persona Game for me. Now thanks to you I actually found out, that P3, 4 and 5 will get a rerelease for Switch so maybe I will finally get what everyone like about them.
