Crazy Physics ! Electromagnetic Eddy Current Brake

Using Eddy Currents (or induced currents/magnetic fields) as a brake.
In the first example the magnet is moving, and is forced to stop, in the second example the magnet is stationary and causes the spinning wheel to stop.

Hi, regarding the spinning disk experiment...
1. If we replace on iron disc would there also be eddy currents generation and subsequent stop OR it will stop just because of magnetic force of attraction?
2. Can electromagnets be used instead of permanent so you don't have to move them close, instead just turn it on and off.
