I have one answer this, as an older, not poor now Canadian. I will die Canadian, one way or the other. I have watched my brothers and sisters in Ukraine, struggle and die, and DID learn from family forever on Juno. Out of my cold dead hands, I will pass the flag of Canada.Never.

This resonates with what Mark Carney has been talking about...becoming more independent, developing our resources, putting money back into Canada rather than sending our money out. I think about not just refineries, but look at the logging industry. We log and ship a lot out, they mill it and sell it back? Re-open our mills, create jobs, keep the product and money here.

Trump is saying the same things about our country Canada, as Putin said about Ukraine. We should be prepared to defend our country like Ukraine is now doing.

Whatever it takes. Should be our new slogan.

Speaking of priorities; if an American invasion of Canada really is a possibility, then why are you interested in any of these other topics? I'm not. All I care about is retaining Canadian freedom. And while I agree the political avenues for protecting Canada hold the most promise, I don't think we should ignore what can be gained by military preparation and expansion. We need to make Canada as uncomfortably jagged a pill to swallow as we can. And we need to demonstrate our will to resist. A nation that goes down fighting stands a better chance of rising again than one that meekly accepts its fate. We gotta fight.

Looking at this discussion if I was American I would be so ashamed of this discussion.

If USA invaded Canada, how long would they be able to hold it? USA has never had a war against a neighbour in recent years. Our border is open. They would have to keep troops in Canada for a long time, and the potential for insurgency actions could directly hit USA cities.

I heard a former Canadian general mentioning that American forces take an oath to the constitution not to the president. I think it would lead to divisions in the American military.

As an American I’m so embarrassed. I love Canadians.

Canada went to Europe to support their allies. Hopefully our allies will support us.

Marco Rubio on the upcoming G7 meeting: “It is not a meeting about how we’re going to take over Canada.” Read it again. How we are going to.

Canada could never have a large enough military to withstand a US invasion. 40 million people could not thwart a country 10 times its population. However, Vietnam and Afghanistan defeated them after invasion.

No one has a military that can go head to head with the USA, but Canadians can make it so painful for the USA to invade Canada that they pull their hand back from the flame. Canada cannot depend on the USA to prevent the US from attacking Canada, that is not a sane expectation. If Canada was to be directly attacked there would very quickly be a standing army in Canada exceeding a million. Canada is strategic, and successful in war. A war with Canada would result in the elimination of Trump, the burning of the Whitehouse, and some very serious damage to every major system and enterprise that keeps the US functional. The US is powerful, but not ready for war with Canada.

The thing is, is we have to get Smith off the Trump train and work for Alberta and Canada, Smith has to do her part and earn the wages the people pay her, and Stop this BS of separating from Canada or she should Resign, Alberta does not belong to Smith it belongs to the people, and her stupid idea Alberta can survive alone is crazy, Not province can survive alone, Seperating from Canada will weaken Alberta and every province, and easy pickings for being envaded by the US and taken over, Smith dont seem to realize, joining the US, Albertans are not US citizens and Trump said all Canadians would be deported or moved to Other countries, and look what trump just said about Snowbirds, , also trump said we would be considered Aliens, Never will Canada join the US . Nor will Alberta, as you said Canada has lots of Rifles and very good sharp shooters,

I would be concerned about "Little Green Men" in advance of any potential invasion. The US would certainly attempt to weaken infrastructure by subversive forces prior to any big move.

Trump is serious. Trudeau and Carney have both stated that Trump intends to annex Canada.

Canada does have the capacity to manufacture nuclear weapons in fairly short order (weeks). In the short term this seems the most cost effective deterrent.
