This was a really big twist for me and added a lot of interesting complexity to the show. The Greek and his connections were finally shown more in full and they reunited us with the stick up boys and corner crews that we had largely ignored in the second season thus far. It was showing that despite seemingly separated they were still part of the same game and geographically relatively close but in terms of environment the polish shipyard runners and the inner city gangs live in separate worlds. Every season had a new slice of the characters change but the city is the city and each level is shown in depth.

I've watched The Wire in its entirety a couple of times over the years but this is the first time i've noticed the Orthodox church panning into the background just at the right moment. Class.

I like that, as Joe asks "Spiros" where he's going (which I certainly took as a joke), the golden domes of the St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church pan into view in the background. The Greek of course, isn't even Greek. So maybe they're off to Ukraine. It doesn't actually matter where they're from, and of course it could be a coincidence. But how many shots in The Wire are coincidences?
