Welcome to my Youtube Channel. In this video, I am showing you an analysis of the most popular web browsers from 1994 to 2021.
I used several sources to create this video. From 2013 to 2021 the data refers to StatCounter. For the years 1994 to 2012 I used W3Counter, Wikipedia and google.
Brief Facts of Browser Timeline
1993: Mosaic: First graphical web browser was launched
1994: Netscape Navigator was launched
1995: Opera was launched as trialware
Internet Explorer was launched as free add-on to Windows
1997: Although IE was free and a component of Windows, Netscape still controlled 70% of the market. This made Netscape become freeware by force.
1998: Microsoft was prosecuted in court for breaking antitrust regulations.
1999: Netscape was purchased by America Online for $4.2 billion.
2000: After being found guilty, Microsoft opted to separate IE from Windows.
In the first browser conflict, IE was declared the victor in 2001.
2002: Firefox was Launched formerly known as Phoenix and Firebird
2003 Apple released Safari 1.0.
2004 saw the public release of Firefox 1.0.
Free Opera of 2005
Opera becomes a free programme.
2008 Google launches Chrome version 1.0.
2012 saw Chrome surpass IE
2015 Edge: Microsoft releases Edge as favour of IE.
2016 Opera 40 is released with a free VPN and a battery-saving mode.
2020 Edge
Microsoft unveiled a new logo and an Edge browser built on Chromium.
2021 Chrome Google starts working on a cookie replacement in order to safeguard user privacy.
