I’m rooting for LUMIX. They really put a lot into their cameras. The only problem it has that has prevented them from eating a bigger piece of the pie is the auto focus. They fix that and the. It’s off to the races! I use Sony cameras at work and they have made me itch closer and closer to purchasing Sony. But if the GH6 MKII with a great focus system then I will wait. GH5 started my journey into videography. LUMIX has a special place in my heart. I love that I can have two bodies and the lenses I need along with accessories in one bag. And my lighting in another case and boom I’m set.

I have to eat my words. In the past I’ve not been a fan of past rumored spec videos due to the cameras having no use for me. As a Panasonic shooter, this is like a light shining on the forgotten brother lol. I appreciate you doing this. Exciting for shooters that Panasonic is giving us the usable tool that all of us knew we’d use and appreciate one day!

It's so nice to see you have the same affinity for Lumix cameras as I do despite their apparent shortcomings. I know how much you like working with Canon and Sony cams, Canon in particular. But it does my heart good every time I see you light up like a Christmas tree every time Panasonic releases a new body. Hopefully, we've finally seen the end of lousy video AF on Panasonic cameras. I will surely buy the S5 II X during the presale if these specs are anywhere accurate. Thank you, Simon.

This sensor looks "EXACTLY" like the Sony IMX410. They seem to be buying the Sony PDAF license now. FINNALLY! We know this sensor has been for sale publicly for a while. It's in Nikon cameras, ZCam and a couple of Sony cameras. (FX9 and A7-III) This IMX410 is also used in the current S1H, S1 and S5 also...but NOT with the Sony PDAF license.

On the AF...remember that Sony is a HYBRID system that uses phase waveform correlation to measure target distance AND peak contrast detection to increase final accuracy. Sony uses BOTH together and it looks like Panasonic will also do just that as well. Phase and contrast used together is perfectly normal and necessary.

When you downsample 6K 4:2:0 to 4K, does it wind up as 4:2:2, or is that only if going from 8K?

DFD + PDAF is what could put Panasonic AF at the top of the tree.
Sony uses contrast AF with PD (hybrid AF), but Panasonic's DFD contrast uses data about the lens to make faster decisions.... So combine that with the assuredness of PD then it has the potential to beat everybody.

Panasonic are practically giving away the S5 mark 1 currently with a couple of lenses, so there's some serious inventory shifting going on ...I suspect because the S5 mark ii is going to be priced keenly to entice Sony & Canon users.

So now that Panasonic is introducing the new autofocus system for the S5II, do you think they will include it for a new micro four thirds camera. It would be nice to have a new version of the G9 for us wildlife enthusiasts!!!

The PDAF with Contrast detect autofocus is standard, all other cameras mix both. In this case, they call it DFD. No problem with that. I hope this will boost Lumix sales. Thanks for sharing!

I looked through the specifications and I found "FAN: Auto1 / Auto2 / Fast / Normal / Slow / OFF" and I got chills!!! I am ready to preorder after I see some review videos. I am so happy right now because I've been waiting for something like this since the GH6 was announced.

I know the AF system is a huge improvement, but i'm a little surprised on the other specs. They seem awfully similar to the previous camera. We will have to see what the entire package looks like.

I believe early Sony cameras used a hybrid AF because phase detect didn't cover 100% of the sensor. It can still be very good.
