It's funny...

You know how people always criticise the storm troopers in the original films to have s*** aim? Well, the evidence most people find for that statement is when Luke, Han, and Obi-wan are on the Death Star, saving Leia in "a new hope" from execution. And yes, the stormtrooper's aim was pretty darn appalling when the main characters were escaping the Death Star, but there was a reason for that. The troopers were missing on purpose. Why? Recall when they're en-route to yavin, Leia says the escape was too easy, and the imperials may have placed a tracker on the Millennium Falcon, but the others dismissed the idea. It is revealed later that the imperials did attach a tracking device to the ship and in fact, where tracking them to see if they could find the secret rebel base. So the reason the stormtrooper's had such bad aim so to give the impression that they where putting up a fight to stop the heroes from escaping, but in fact they wanted them to in order to track them.
