it works both way, at my university I refer to Imam Ali as as Maula Ali as sometimes and people already get a bit shook, they are like who or they get a bit conservative on what to say. it's got to a stage in some places if you talk about Ahlulbayt as they think you are Shia or that you shouldn't talk about them. They typically being from a salafi background.

I like the balanced view given and it was done in a respectful manner that doesn't offend anyone. I was brought up in a so called sunni belief but abandoned that tag many years ago when I started to read more broadly & started to understand a little bit of the Quranic text. It was dangerous to leave it to the local Imams to educate us as I was of the view that our local Imams were the driving force behind fueling the difference between Sunnis & Shias. I now hold the view that I am just a Muslim who obey Allah & his Rasul to believe otherwise would be splitting the Ummah which I want no part of.

12 Imams or not I don’t see how one could read sahih Bukhari or sahih Muslim or timridhi and not be a Shia. (12 Imams are not why we are called Shia we are called as such because we followed Imam Ali and the Ahlul Bayt as the prophet wanted.)

Bhai the Prophet told us to hold on to the Quran and the Ahle Bayt, how are we holding on to them when people like Bukhari refused to take hadith from the Imams.

i dont think the lack of mention of the imams amongst sunnis means that those imams actually claimed the beliefs the shias asrcibe to them. in terms of classic Sunni Islamic scholarship their mentioned all the time, and we have narrations of jafar as sadiq (r) praising Abu Bakr (r) and saying how he's free from the rafidis. If jafar (r) for example did have those shia views then imam malik (r) and imam abu hanifa (r) wouldnt even be on good terms with him let alone his students. Sunni Islam has the correct view of the 11 imams, as 11 extremely pious and spiritual men who were fallible.
