If you’re a fan of overdrive pedals, then you know about the Klon Centaur. Well, the Klon KTR is the long-anticipated follow-up to the mythic Centaur. For a considerably smaller price tag, you can get the legendary tone of the Centaur along with optional true bypass switching, though you can still opt for the original buffer. Adding a warm boost that pushes an amp already on the edge of breakup into a glorious, golden overdrive is what the Centaur was famous for, and what the KTR does best.

I currently have a friend’s ktr on loan to check out. I was quickly able to match its tone with my MXR Sugar Drive, which was loosely based on the Klon. It doesn’t hurt that the Sugar Drive was designed by Jeorge Tripps. I did two tests- one into the clean channel, and one into the dirty channel of my Orange Rockerverb 50 Mkii. It was surprisingly easy to match the tones to where I couldn’t tell them apart while having my son switch between them while not looking.

I just bought it over a month ago and also used it at a live gig in early May - we had rain like mad - anyway: the device sounds great and has harmonies in about three "overtunes", cant explain this - so best is to use it on a crunch channel of a tube amp in my opinion. It then has a great sustain. However: I think the hype about the clone is ..the price is also maybe over the top (I paid about 400 Euro) - Maybe I find an amp that makes pedals unusable.... But for sustain there is no amp I tested so far, except a Marshall 100 Watts Amp from 1965 - non affordable to me. Best wishes, Uwe, Guitar player, South Germany.

ive used this pedal for 1 year now and its amazing put it in front of an amp on the edge of break up and hear the magic.this demo is not good.

It’s nice he has a sense of humour and has made them available to mere mortals, but I just don’t get it with this one.
But it’s hard to tell from only a YouTube vid.

I commented 3 years ago, as I see in the recordings. 5 people liked my comment. In our world there are many thousands or even millions of people around making music, So for me this means: the Clon Centaur Hype is not real.

Snake oil! I keep hearing how great the Centaur is and how the KTR is just as good, but cheaper...I have yet to see a demo that sounds like anything more than an ordinary boost. In a perfect system with all the right hardware, optimal settings, pristine signal, just the right pickups that speak to the amp in all the right ways and output to the speaker that perfectly matches everything, and probably 20 other variables, then maybe a Klon can sound the way people believe it does. I haven't heard it, nor do I believe all this hogwash.
