Cheese! You're missing cheese. But it's so nice to see someone not knocking our food before trying it.

As a Brit, I have never seen anyone eat beans on toast without a knife and fork.

I was raised on beans and toast. I loved it when someone said they never seen anybody Eat it without a knife and fork. I agree with that we didn’t put cheese on it. It was just warm beans on toast and that was our staple usually for lunch. We’ve had it for breakfast but never for teatime.

The beans should be heated very gently NOT bubbling in the pan for 5mins ! Heat very gently for about 5mins til they are warm. If theyre bubbling theyre burning

I lived in London for a few years, and fell in love with this dish immediately. Moved back 15 years ago, and I still have it once a week. Comfort food staple! Also, try the beans on a baked potato with butter, beans, and cheddar on top. ‘Jacket potato’. It’s wonderful!

My great grandmother used to eat beans on buttered bread, probably every day. She made a bean soup with 4-5 different types of beans. It was always a thick slice of white bread, with tons of butter and she would scoop the beans out of the soup. I thought it was a weird great Grandma food when I was a kid, but it's so yummy

Wondered about this for most of my sad lil beans-on-toastless American life 😅 thank for your demystifying service 😂❤

Canadian here 🇨🇦 We do beans & wieners, which is just hotdog wieners cut into bite-sized slices thrown into the bean pot. Then, it can be enjoyed by the spoonful, or on toast! Our family tends to eat thicker, multi-grain bread (from a German bakery). Butter is a must!

I let the toast cool a little so the butter is melted by the beans. Also, if I'm famished, I add Colmans Mustard and cheddar cheese to the beans. Caution on the mustard, it's hot.

I spent some time in London when I was in college. There was always HP Sauce in the house. When I found HP Sauce on the grocery store shelf here in the US I have no doubt the other shoppers thought I had won the lottery or perhaps my mind.

You know food is good when an American says "dang" 😂 I may have to try reducing the sauce down 😅

Brit here! 🙋🏻‍♀️ the butter needs to be spread on toast the millisecond it comes out of the toaster so it melts a little. Or with some mature cheddar cheese melted on top of the toast before pouring beans is just 👌🏻

Oh we plan on buying black pudding and I'm gonna make a full English breakfast for my hubby. We love anything British and damn we might never visit the UK, but I'm going to bring it to my midwest home!

So HP sauce is a thicker version of A1. Just a heads up.

So glad you liked it. You absolutely nailed the crispyness of the toast and the reduced thicker baked beans. Topping it all off with HP Sauce was inspired………goodness me I want some now ❤

Growing up poor whenever we had pork and beans we'd always have a slice of white bread with it because you use it to sop up the juice

She did it perfectly minus the knife and fork. 👏

I can't say I've ever added a sauce to my beans on toast, but you need more than that 😆
Glad you enjoyed it!❤

I grew up eating baked bean sandwiches. Homemade "Boston" baked beans, untoasted white bread and ketchup. Yum ! Wasn't until way into adulthood i discovered it was a British thing. My maternal grandfather was English. All was made clear. 😋
