A big issue many famous movies are running into is they no longer care about creating a story; instead, they resort to turning movies into meme-fests.

I haven't seen it yet, but "It feels less like it was made by people who've played a game and more by people who've been explained the game" seems exactly right. It feels like they've been given a checklist of both things from the game and comedy cliches and been told "Do whatever just make sure you touch upon these points". Like we didn't need Jack Black to say "FLINT AND we can see that, we know what it is. Forgotten the age-old cinematography concept of "Show, don't tell"

I think everyone did a great job on the movie, except the writers. It was honestly just really poorly written. The actors did well delivering their lines, the effects and CGI looked great, the directing was… interesting at some points, but it really was just the fact that the plot and dialogue was PAINFULLY bad. Especially the first few minutes of exposition

If they really did have to go for the “Jumanji features showcase” I just wish they made the kids the knowledgeable ones teaching the adults things, like I just love the thought of an adult freaking out as a kid says “Oh my god I’ve always wanted to do this!” And starts furiously punching a tree

The movie isn't very good. But what made the experience fun was the fact that the entire theater played into the memes and just screamed the meme lines when they came up and clapped, for Every. Single. MEME. Without it. I dont think i would have as much fun

My theatre also had like, 2 groups of preteen boys claping and cheering for all the iconic lines lol
I'd say the best part of the movie were the references, both to the community, and other MC games, those were the only bits where I felt like they really thought it out

My take is that if Jack Black didn't know anything about Minecraft and was a single character explorer the movie would've been better

Yeah, so was Shrek, Incredibles, Toy Story and so many more animated movies of the 90s and 2000s and they were still great and enjoyed by everyone, not just kids, because they weren't dumbed down.
And yeah, just from the trailers and the artstyle it was aparent that it wasn't made by people who played Minecraft, but by people who were told what Minecraft is
