Oh! That make sense why Toothless might have been looking so guilty. He doesn’t like when Hiccup is taken off his back, he can’t protect him that way. And the last time that happened (second movie) Toothless couldn’t help Hiccup, and he was falling. While Hiccup now has the technology to glide, he may have not recovered in the air a bit. Also, Toothless still needed Hiccup to fly at the time.
