Your efforts are praiseworthy, continue it to help children .plz also make video on alternate to practical topics given in igcse chemistry book perhaps last two chapter.

This transcript from the video on electrochemistry covers the basics of **electrolysis** and the related terms and processes:

1. **Electrolysis**: Decomposition of an ionic compound (molten or aqueous) by electric current.
- The compound needs to be melted or dissolved for ions to move.

2. **Electrodes**:
- **Electrode**: A conductor allowing current to enter or leave an electrolyte.
- **Cathode**: Negative electrode; attracts positive ions (cations).
- **Anode**: Positive electrode; attracts negative ions (anions).

3. **Electrolyte**: Molten or aqueous ionic substance that undergoes electrolysis.

4. **Ions**:
- **Cations**: Positive ions that move to the cathode.
- **Anions**: Negative ions that move to the anode.

5. **Oxidation and Reduction**:
- **Oxidation** (at the anode): Loss of electrons.
- **Reduction** (at the cathode): Gain of electrons.
- Mnemonic: **OIL RIG** (Oxidation Is Loss, Reduction Is Gain).

6. **Products of Electrolysis**:
- **At the anode**: Negative ions lose electrons (oxidation).
- **At the cathode**: Positive ions gain electrons (reduction).
- Example: In molten sodium chloride, Na⁺ ions move to the cathode (forming sodium metal), Cl⁻ ions move to the anode (forming chlorine gas).

The video introduces these concepts to help with understanding electrochemistry, focusing on the flow of electrons and the reactions that occur at the electrodes.

Hi Mam,
I have a question please
4:43, why cations gain electrons at cathode while they have + charge and anion lose electrons at anode when they have -charge ?

hii, your videos are extremely helpful but I had a few questions on this topic, from which electrode does the electric current enter and leave the electrolytic cell? And why is the "e-" symbol written near the anode in a simple diagram of an electrolytic cell?
