Ok from what I seen in this short it seem like the doppelgänger is inside the mirror, so what I'm gonna theorized is that the doppelgänger are actually your mirrored version just in a completely new timeline, these doppelgänger managed to find a way to cross to multiple reality with an mirror, so these doppelgänger origins are from a mirror. It seem like the doppelgänger can only do some specific mirror to actually appear, the doppelgänger can only appear once the same person is standing Infront of the mirror, there's two ways to make this make sense, 1. The doppelgänger are actually shapeshifters monsters that hunt from one mirror in each universe 2. An intelligent civilization of cannibals found a way to cross reality with an mirror 3.
