It depends on what type of fruits you like!! There are different variations of durian with different texture and flavour, so it depends on your preference to find the perfect durian for you. :)
1) If you like a bit of bitterness in your food, there are durians that have slight bitterness in the flesh.
2) if you like your fruits soft like custard, the one you tried (ripe/over ripe ones) are great (check the tip of the durian that with a natural stub that looked like it has dropped from a tree)
3) if you like your fruits firm and have a bit of crunch, find durians that are still green/unripe (look at the stub to find a clean/straight cut to show that it's harvested before it fell from the tree)
p.s. if the cut durian ripens along the way, by right the "cut stub" will sort of fall off and the "natural stub" will more or less be seen instead.

also to note, if you are unfamiliar with durians and don't want one that has too strong a taste, try to find a less ripe durian because its flavour will be lesser and more "managable" than a ripe/over riped durian. :)

As a fellow mallu from Singapore who loves durian.
If you have a sweet tooth try these varieties of durian : red prawn(affordable) or black thorn(expensive).
If you want to taste a bit of alcohol : then XO
Although Mao Shan Wang(sweet and bitter) is considered the most premium(Yet to taste😢).

Jackfruit has texture to it, durian is creamy. And yes, you should give it another shot...in the form of dessert! Durian pies, durian cheesecake... Anything you can get your hand on!

There's a lot of different kinds of durians here in SG, but if u are a beginner, you should probably try D13 aka 'kampung' breed, they are sweet and fragrant with orange-ish flesh. But I think I can say that most of us singaporeans like Musang King, its a bit pricey but really shiok!! HAHAHAHA

Yasss try again. Try Udang Merah and D24. Durian was so much cheaper when I was a kid. Still remember my mom used to buy 1 big red plastic bag of durian only for Rm10 or Rm20. Now here in Malaysia ech durian is about 50-100.

Great you tried that, I couldn't even try the durian flavor ice cream when in Singapore...and it does not smell like jackfruit

Try Mao Shan Wang or Blackthorn. You might like it better. Durian is amazing ❤

It's also quite heaty, so have some coconut water to cool off as well.

I had it in Hongkong twice or thrice… it’s soo tasty almost like jackfruit but when it gets overriped then it becomes more squishy type and the taste also changes then it’s not tht good…I bought full durian fruit and they cut it and give it … it costs same 1000/1200
