The difference between a person like Arthur Ashe and Colin Kaepernick is like night and day.

Arthur Ashe was a highly intelligent, respectful, and well-spoken man. He didn't approach life with a sense of entitlement.

He was also a person, who used his fame to help build awareness for cardiovascular disease and (later in his life) for aids.

This man did so much to inspire children in the black community. He really transcended the game in a way that very few athletes ever can.

If alive today, he wouldn't agree with the approach that someone like Naomi Osaka or Colin Kaepernick have chosen to take.

Even though Richmond was segregationist, that is where Arthur learned to play the game. In an interview with David Letterman, Arthur says that he was spoiled as a kid because his father was in charge of a sports field in Richmond which included 4 tennis courts. The family lived on the sports field and Arthur has free access.
