How close are plugins of famous hardware to the actual thing in general??

When you crank the saturation with a high threshold, it stops compressing. Saturation knob impacts signal before it hits the compressor. Try the TLA-100A. It’s a softube emulation of an LA2A. Tone is great with slightly more control, but for this one the saturation knob comes after compression. It’s like 10years old now but it’s great.
