The STRONGEST Character in Fairy Tail
So in fairy tail we have a lot and I mean a lot of incredibly powerful characters and guilds.. And characters like Zeref, Acnologia and END Natsu, rank among the series all time strongest.. But if we’re talking about the strongest character in just the Fairy Tail guild itself then the answer may actually surprise you.. Because it has been stated that although Natsu, Gray and Erza are some of the strongest characters in the entire series, they are not the strongest within their own guild.. For you see that title of fairy tail's strongest wizard resides with the same man that it always has, Gildarts.. That's right, it was stated within the 100 year quest that the strongest wizard in the fairy tail guild is none other than a guy who literally fights with 1 arm and 1 lag.. Like when we talk about insane anime flaxes this definitely ranks up there as one of the most impressive.

Gildarts, Laxus and Mystogan were treated to be the strongest members of FT and also mysterious in that they were never present at the guild. Erza and Mirajane comes in the list too while being the ones always present at the guild at the time of need.
Natsu and Gray were not even S-class ranked so they were focussed on for the development part which made it awesome to see them in the later seasons, specially the last one

it's not actually surprising. He is legit the strongest. He only fails in a 100 year quest because he faces acnologia along the way and also he always wants to move alone which is a 100year quest supposed to be done by multiple high caliber mage with a strong Dragon slayer which is he is not even a dragon slayer. yet YES HE IS THE STRONGEST.

The whole point of shonen other than beating the villains, is for the protagonist to keep sparring with their rivals, catch up to the ones they admire, and finally standing on par with the strongest. Natsu, Gray and Gajeel, even Wendy and Lucy eventually grow strong enough to contend with Erza, Mira and Laxus. But out of all of them, Natsu is the one intended to surpass Gildarts. While Lucy and Wendy's whole growth is destined to place them as equals to Erza and Mirajane. But since both Erza and Laxus keep getting stronger, the journey to the top takes longer. Mirajane on the other hand has all the potential in the world as long as creatures to take-over exist, but she is not a fighter. And so, her feats are hardcapped by the way she is, since she lacks the stamina. But it's hardly a surprise Gildarts is the strongest of Fairy Tail, he's got top Wizard Saint level of strength. Maybe not straight up broken level of strength as Acnologia, Zeref, August, Irene, and God Serena. But definitely almost there. All while nerfed.

Fairy Tail is home to many amazing wizards, each with unique abilities. Mira wields demon magic, Erza commands various armaments, Mystogan uses diverse magics, and Freed excels with script magic. Juvia also stands out with her impressive water-bending abilities. Picking a favorite is tough. However, due to the plot, Natsu is often sees as the coolest and strongest. For me, NO ‘only one’ wizard is the strongest, as the guild's power comes from teamwork.
