I return once again with my bi-yearly Undertale AU song to convince all my fans that I am definitely an AU song creator and they better stay updated because you literally never know when I'm drop a banger about your favourite AU. Anyways, I wanted to write a creepy and crazy song so I could use some whispery vocals and also I needed a song I know viewers would watch so I could do some more original stuff or more niche games. Hope it satisfied the hunger. Hope you enjoy!

I absolutely love how the play on words fit together so well, like in the comics where Horror is hiding the ugly truth behind lies and words that make your spine tingle. Like that one scene where he lists off spices that slowly turn into names...

I love how the song shifts between perspectives and who is being talked about in different choruses.

For starters, from 0:00 - 0:44, the lyrics are just talking about the underground in a general consensus and the state it’s in.

Then, 0:44 - 0:57, it’s from sans’s perspective where he compares himself to Aliza in that sense that they both share one thing in common. Needing to eat. Then he refers to the rest of the underground (or whoever is still left, mostly the folks of snowdin since waterfall is referred to as a swamp and hotland is just barren and reeks of death.)

The two strikes line I’m not sure what it’s about. I thought maybe it was the freebies but then remembered that Aliza had 3, not two. And the blood stew line is just about how the residents of snowdin all just eat humans.

1:10 - 1:39 is such a fire chorus. (The transition with the “we made from you-“ cutting into “You’ve” at the start of the chorus in just so satisfying and creative.) Anyways, it’s obviously from sans’s perspective. The, “You’ve got some nerve to run. Got some nerve to think that I’d help someone.” seems to be about Aliza. But the, “Got some nerve to try making me the one.” line seems to be referring to Undyne. Specifically the fact that she forced sans to be the noble sacrifice and take his eye to power the core after she had a freakout and got angry at sans because to her, their discussion came across as sans just telling her to break the core and then just trying to leave.

Then the lines, “Now I’m making sure that we all are done. Our hell has begun.”, combined with the visuals makes it clear that this is talking about how sans; in his pettiness and desire to purposefully spite Undyne upon his magic eye working and restoring power to the underground, and destroys the core. (As shown in the background) Thus, dooming the underground once more all because he wanted petty revenge.

(Thank you for not depicting the, “Food! NOM!!” or “Ohnooo Undyne hates me for no reason and put a spear through my head, I’m the victim!!” version of horror sans. Because he’s really not the victim, but he isn’t entirely to blame either. I looked back at the comics and page 87 explains this. Alphys, Undyne, and sans all equally share the blame. Taking sans’s eye was Alphys idea, Undyne was the one who went through with it even through she had sworn she wouldn’t to Alphys because she didn’t want to hurt let alone kill one of her friends, and sans who lobotomized Alphys and ruined the entire Undergrounds chance to be normal again by destroying the core out of spite and pettiness.)

1:51 - 2:17
This is once again referring to Aliza as well as humans on the surface and how cruel they are and yet again the heart line is about how monsters eat humans.

2:21 - 2:45
This is probably my favorite part of the whole song- It’s the most interesting because it actually seems to be from the perspective of Undyne who is talking about sans this time. The line, “-to break all that we worked for, just to spite me”, is obviously what I talked about earlier. sans in his anger and want for revenge destroys the core to spite Undyne, therefore making Undyne’s forceful removal of his eye all for nothing.

And then the lines about sans’s, “sick, sick head”, means exactly what it sounds like. Undyne is just calling sans sick in the head. BUT- The line, “You’d do us al a favor if you were dead”, probably sounds malicious but if you think about in the context of what actually happened, it’s kind of not. It’s not Undyne wishing sans was dead. (Current time Undyne however… that’s debatable) It’s actually Undyne acknowledging the forced removal of his eye as a noble sacrifice and a favor to the whole underground. She even tells the guards as she walks away with his eye to give him a proper burial so sans could be remembered as a hero. (Of course he didn’t actually end up dying so…)

Finally, 3:14 - 3:42 is returning back to sans’s perspective. He’s again talking about Undyne. The line, “You’ve got some nerve to cry”, confused me a little because I wasn’t sure how it could tie back to Undyne. My only guess is he’s calling her out for being upset, crying and vomiting upon seeing Alphys had been lobotomized by sans when Undyne did something basically just as horrible to him. He also goes on to say he doesn’t empathize for her because she should’ve expecting something like this happening after Alphys had literally conspired against him with a plot to sacrifice him in order to save the underground. She had come up with that plan even though she knew sans had presented a plan of his own for the core, and that’s why he was angry at Alphys. Especially since Alphys admitted she didn’t regret it because it had to be done and she didn’t care if sans killed her.

And of course the, “Tear out my skull and eye” is obvious what it’s about, no explanation needed. Then, “Now I’m making sure that we all die”, is about sans destroying the core which had literally just turned back on, restoring power to the underground with the help of his magic eye as an act of revenge. Doing so jeopardized the Underground’s chance at going back to the way it was before, especially killing everyone in a sense.

That’s all, I enjoyed analyzing and picking apart this song. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk. (Also I’m considering doing an animatic for this, it depends on if my mental health gets better and I find the motivation and time to do so. I just finished the Fall Term of college classes and holiday break is coming up soon so I may start on it then or sooner if I get a random burst of motivation. There is a chance however that I may lose motivation and just give up like I do with many art projects but I’ll try and we’ll see where it goes.)
