“All I saw was the kids’ faces and I never want that to happen again,” she said. However, Katie has now revealed that she is seeing less and less of two of her children, due to 'limited access'.
She added: “The hardest thing I’ve had to deal with in the recent months is having limited access to some of my kids. Recent events have meant I’m seeing my youngest children less and the relationship between me and their father has broken down.”
Katie continued: “It’s not good for my mental health and it’s certainly not good for their mental health. They should be having their mum in their life. At the moment I’m stuck in this rut with Jett and Bunny and it is frustrating for me. You know, seven months, how has it even got to this? It’s heart-breaking and I just wish it wasn’t like this.
"All I can do is hope that this won’t be forever.”
Katie also outlined that it wasn't the drink-driving crash which triggered the deterioration of her mental health, and that things were a lot worse a mere few years ago. “I hit a severe depression a couple of years ago, depression on top of PTSD. I was suicidal, I didn’t want to be here,” she said.
Her terminally ill mum Amy, 69, and stepdad Paul also appear in the new documentary, with the latter speaking to cameras about Katie's health for the first time.
Speaking to documentarians, he said: "I think her downfall has to start from the divorce with Pete. From that moment, all she got was backlash, backlash, backlash and I find it quite hurtful. I’m not saying she’s an angel, but I think she deserves better. I can understand why she’s got mental health [struggles]. It’s hard.”
Amy, added: "Kate is good at hiding her feelings, we knew she had loads and loads of problems. So when she had this accident the first thing she said to me was, ‘Why have I survived?’ I’m not sure if it was a suicide attempt, but you just realise how delicate she is."
She continued: “It was a cry for help, really. As a mum it’s devastating because you never want to see your child go through this and you do question yourself.”
